Bill Hybels, an American author state that vision is a picture of the future that produces passion. Our beloved country, Malaysia aimed to become one of the developed countries by 2020. This picture of Malaysia being a developed country by 2020 is drawn during the sixth Malaysia Plan in 1991. The Vision has put us into our passion and absorbed into our spirit. This phase of Malaysia Can ( Malaysia Boleh ) widely speaks among people around the globe about the ability of Malaysians. Even the sky wasn't a limit. While for Sarawak, we dream to become a developed state by 2030.
Sarawak will strive to develop its talents and infrastructure towards achieving its vision. To be a developed state. the thing that we have to put measure are education, economy, and technology.
For education, in order to expand our youth ability in the global market, the Sarawak Education Department has taken a step ahead to introduce the using of English in the teaching of mathematics and science by 2020. Sarawak will be the role model for other states. This approach to learning or teach mathematics and sciences in English is due to concern of English as international languages. Younger generations have grown up in different technological experiences, ideas, and solutions.
Sarawak had long realized that empowering youths can only be realized through education. Education is the best tool for success for the future of Sarawak and the country, it is within our plans to engage and build the capacity of student leadership in Sarawak and empower them to be a significant part of the education policy formation relevant for the future.
For Economy, to be a developed state the most importance's part of industrial revolution 4.0 is the digital economy. UNIMAS plays a big role in guiding the state towards the digital economy and acts as the main mover to enable research and technology development activities. It cannot be denied that the relationship between the state government and Unimas is one of the backbones in our efforts to turn our goal of achieving a developed-state status by 2030 said by Chief Minister of Sarawak Abang Johari.
In an effort to embrace the digital economy, the Sarawak government has set aside RM1 billion to upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure and other infrastructure to establish good connectivity, as well as stimulate economic growth in the rural regions. E-payment platform Sarawak Pay is set to be rebranded to allow it to go global, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has said. The Sarawak government implemented Sarawak Pay as part of efforts to introduce the digital economy, to allow cashless payment of bills and at selected retailers in the state via a mobile app.
Sarawak Pay, which enables payment through electronic wallet (e-wallet), credit card or online banking, has paved the way for new ways of doing business transactions. It has a ‘scan and pays’ feature that facilitates payment by scanning a QR code on a bill, or one displayed by a retailer.
For Technology, Two Sarawakian researchers have developed a technology using artificial intelligence (AI) to provide early detection of heart disease. The work of Prof Patrick Then and Dr. Brian Loh uses algorithms and machine learning techniques to detect abnormalities in stress echocardiograms. A stress echocardiogram is (a procedure) where the patient does an exercise to see how the heart is beating because some symptoms cannot be detected when the heart is at rest. The program could help prevent heart attacks through early detection.
In recognition of their work, the European Society of Cardiology invited Prof Then and Loh to present their research at its inaugural Digital Summit in Tallinn, Estonia, on Oct 5-6. This Project is a breakthrough as the entire project was researched and developed in Sarawak without any technology transfer. We have demonstrated that from the jungles of Borneo, we can develop world-class technology.
In conclusion, The Vision of Sarawak is meant to be just that of a vision for the future. It is a future that we have already begun to shape through dedication. Our vision will become clearer and more focused as we move forward together as educated people with a good attitude, well adapted to the fourth industrial revolution and demonstrated that we from the jungle of borne can develop world-class technology.
