On 7 January 2019, we students of Life Sciences Foundation UNIMAS were allowed to visit the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, located at the West Campus, UNIMAS. The day before the visit to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, most of my friends showed their excitement through status in WhatsApp who can not wait for tomorrow. For me, I did not put such high expectations for the visit because I wanted to judge through his own eyes.
On the day of the visit, I have only two major focuses on seeing all the facilities offered by the Faculty as well as gain all information about future use. After the completion of the lecture on the day, my friend and I were outside the Dewan Unimas waiting for the bus to take us to the Faculty. When we arrived at the Faculty, we were asked to take attendance and be prepared. Following the group name list, I was placed in subgroup no.2 under the guidance of Mr. Ikhwan.
Before split in according to subgroups respectively. All of us have been taken to a place ( laboratory ) for briefings on the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The officer briefing us is Mdm. Mariam. She is one of the lecturers who teach in the Doctor In Medicine Course. According to her, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences offers two major courses namely Doctor of Medicine and Nursing. For Doctor's Medical courses, the duration of the study is 5 years (2 years of pre-clinical and 3-year clinical) and they use a block system. For Nursing courses, the duration of the study is 4 years (2 years pre-clinical and 2 years clinical) and they use a more understandable semester system
After hearing all the briefings given, we went on a tour around the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The first place we went to was the Anatomy Museum. In this museum, we are given the chance to see the specimen about human anatomy. I am quite excited to be able to see the various types of anatomy that are always seen in the textbook closely. Much information was obtained from the anatomy museum. Next, we continue to visit Mortuary. This is an experience I can not miss. There were officers there who gave us a clarification about the bodies there. Finally, we visit the Emergency Treatment Centre. Here we are taught how to deal with medical emergencies. Two officers gave us a guide to CPR. He also advised us to be alert and quick to act as a health officer in the future.
As a result, I gained knowledge during the visit. I hope to use all this information to share with my other friends. This visit has opened my eyes, as well as put the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences as one of the preferred faculties on the entry of degree level in the future. I would like to thank all the lecturers who involved in the visit.
